About me

My name is Simon Briercliffe: I’m a freelance historian, researcher and writer based in the West Midlands. I have completed an MA at King’s College, London, in urban geography, and a PhD in history at the University of Birmingham. I am now a historical researcher for the Black Country Living Museum, and recently published my first book based on research there.
Alongside this I am available for freelance work including writing, consultancy, community engagement and research in history. I have worked for a number of community history projects across the West Midlands, and my work has appeared in print, and on radio and TV
Publications

My most recent major publication is Forging Ahead: Austerity to Prosperity in the Black Country, 1945-1968 (History West Midlands, 2021). This book, published by History West Midlands and produced with the Black Country Living Museum, studies the Black Country in its crucial post-war boom years.
